CHARITY WEIGHT LOSS CHALLENGE

BCS Fitness clients that would like to participate will select from the 5 local charities BCS Fitness has partnered with.  You will be partnered with 4-5 other clients that are trying to lose weight for the same charity.  BCS Fitness will provide a sponsorship letter to send to friends, co-workers, and family asking them to pledge $1 for every pound lost over the 12 Week Challenge (November-February.)   We selected 5 charities that we believe would benefit greatly from this Weight Loss Challenge. Financial experts have suggested that charitable organizations could feel strong effects from the sluggish economy this Winter.  Please consider how losing just a few pounds could go a long way for these local charities. Below you will find a brief description of each charity,  what they do and who they serve here in Bryan/College Station .

  • Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Brazos Valley
  • The mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Brazos Valley is “to help children reach their potential through professionally supported one-to-one relationships.”  Our vision is “successful mentoring relationships for all children who need and want them, contributing to brighter futures, better schools, and stronger communities for all.”   Children each have talents, but through no fault of their own may also have limited resources, experiences and opportunities to realize their possibilities. Our Littles come from various types of home environments and family structures, different socio-economic levels, ethnic backgrounds, neighborhoods and schools. Their backgrounds and personalities are unique, but each child has a need for friendship with a caring adult. Effective Bigs add the simple but powerful element of someone who freely chooses to be part of a child’s life, someone who likes and respects him/her, and believes in his/her potential.
  • Family Promise
  • Family Promise of Bryan College Station is a non-profit agency that collaborates with local congregations to provide support to homeless families.  Family Promise is a program for homeless families with children, whose main mission is to assist families in overcoming the obstacles that have led to homelessness and help get them into permanent housing and on a long-term path to avoid homelessness in the future.  We do this by providing overnight shelter at local churches, 3 meals per day (provided by local churches), providing a day center (includes a permanent address, phones, computers, storage for personal belongings, showering and laundry facilities) and a case manager.  Program funds for Family Promise are typically used for paying for the day center operations, transportation and child care while parents are job searching, and for purchasing supplies or services that families need to accomplish their employment, housing, and parenting goals.

The object in mind is the children – it is our heart’s desire to see children raised in loving, nurturing homes that honor Christ and that point children to our Savior.”
  •  Voices for Children
  • Voices For Children, Inc., Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Brazos Valley is a non-profit organization that recruits, trains, and supports volunteers from the community to be an advocate for a child in the foster care system.  These children have been removed from their home because of abuse or neglect, and in order to not get lost in the cracks of the larger system, our volunteers follow them through the system, often committing 12-18 months to be able to advocate for them every step of the way.  Our goal for every child we’re assigned to is to find them a safe, stable, permanent, and loving home as quickly as possible.
